Kedar Ghat was built by the Maharaja of Vijayanagara, and the resident deity is Lord Shiva, after whom the Ghat has been named. In very close proximity there is a water enclosure known as Parvati Kund, a rather scenic and picturesque pond believed to possess medicinal properties. Kedar Ghat seems to be particularly popular among Bengalis and south Indians,\ both of which can be observed visiting in large numbers. At the very top of its steps, there sits a red and white structure, a beautiful temple which houses the Kedareshvara lingum, known as the Kedareshvara Temple. Attached to it is a monastery that was established in the late 16th century by a Dattatreya devote called Kumarasvami. There is particularly increased activity in Kedar Ghat during the month of Sravana (July-August). The other sites of religious importance in the vicinity are the Vitanka Narsimha and the Gauri Kund.
